Letizia Maggio

Letizia Maggio

This month I have the pleasure of presenting the work of Letizia Maggio.

Letizia and I met in 2016, after adding me on networking sites Letizia came to look for me on the occasion of my exhibition at the Fuorisalone during the Milan design week, because Letizia is really interested in weaving relationships based on communication and exchange . Since 2016 our discussion has remained open and our knowledge has become a friendship with solid foundations.

LETIZIA MAGGIO is a jewelry designer with an eclectic background. In her curriculum we find a master's degree in English Languages and Literature, studies in art therapy, a qualified training as a ceramist achieved through courses and collaborations with renowned artists and at the International School of Ceramics 'La Meridiana' in Certaldo, an apprenticeship in the field of goldsmithing and more.

Open and prone to collaborations and dialogue between different artistic disciplines, Letizia often resorts to the use of fine art photography in her projects.

In recent years her research has been oriented towards the use and experimentation of ever-changing materials and languages, which may from time to time be the most suitable for translating the concept that he intends to communicate or explore with his work.

IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MILK COLLECTION, 2023

The series, recently presented at the Munich Jewelery Week 2023, develops in two different directions, complementary but also opposite.

On the one hand, it intends to celebrate the woman tout court, a little with malice and a little with irony, through the representation of the female breast through the use of materials in strong contrast with those that have always, in the history of art, they were used to depict him. On the other hand, with the series made in silver, however, the intent is rather to reflect again on the condition of women and on the role that women strive to play in modern society.

"Letizia presents … It might have been milk, which takes up her research on the body and in particular the female one: a set of pieces that draw breasts - as an original and life-generating symbolic element - in different formats, materials and construction techniques .
The practice of representing the dissected body, through casts and prostheses, has ancient roots and is of classical memory. In the context of contemporary jewellery, Gerd Rothmann fits into that revolutionary current which, since the 1970s, has made the body the work of art. These pieces seem to quote his famous 1986 Masculine Feminine necklace whose components are elements made up of the impressions of a man's and a woman's nipples divided respectively on one side and on the other of the jewel." (Ilaria Ruggiero)

In the section Guest Gallery of the shop you will find some jewels made by her. Take a look at her works.
