Questo mese ho il piacere di presentare il lavoro di Letizia Maggio.

Letizia ed io ci siamo conosciute nel 2016, dopo avermi aggiunta sui siti di networking Letizia è venuta a cercarmi in occasione di una mia esposizione al Fuorisalone nel corso della Milano design week, perchè Letizia è realmente interessata ad intessere relazioni basate sulla comunicazione e lo scambio. Dal 2016 il nostro confronto è rimasto aperto e la nostra conoscenza è diventata una amicizia con basi solide. 

LETIZIA MAGGIO è una designer di gioielli dalla formazione eclettica. Nel suo curriculum troviamo una laurea magistrale in Lingue e letteratura inglese, studi di arteterapia, una qualificata formazione come ceramista conseguita attraverso corsi e collaborazioni con rinomati artisti e presso la Scuola Internazionale di Ceramica ‘La Meridiana’ di Certaldo, apprendistato nel campo dell’oreficeria e altro ancora.

Aperta e incline alle collaborazioni e al dialogo tra discipline artistiche diverse, Letizia spesso ricorre all’uso della fotografia d’autore nei suoi progetti.

Negli ultimi anni la sua ricerca è orientata verso l’uso e la sperimentazione di materiali e linguaggi sempre diversi, che possano di volta in volta essere i più adatti a tradurre in oggetto/gioiello il concept che con il suo lavoro intende comunicare o esplorare.

COLLEZIONE     IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MILK, 2023

La serie, presentata di recente in occasione della Munich Jewellery Week 2023, si sviluppa in due diverse direzioni, complementari ma anche opposte. 

Da un lato si intende celebrare la donna tout court, un po’ con malizia e un po’ con ironia, attraverso la rappresentazione del seno femminile mediante l’utilizzo di materiali in forte stridio con quelli che da sempre, nella storia dell’arte, sono stati usati per raffigurarlo. Dall’altra, con la serie realizzata in argento, invece, l'intento è piuttosto quello di riflettere ancora sulla condizione della donna e sul ruolo che la donna si sforza di svolgere nella società moderna.

"Letizia presenta … It might have been milk, che riprende la sua ricerca sul corpo e in particolare quello femminile: un insieme di pezzi che disegnano dei seni - quale elemento simbolico originario e generativo di vita - in diversi formati, materiali e tecniche di realizzazione.
La pratica della rappresentazione del corpo sezionato, tramite calchi e protesi, ha radici antiche ed è di classica memoria. Nell’ambito del gioiello contemporaneo, Gerd Rothmann s’inserisce in quella corrente rivoluzionaria che, dagli anni 70, fa del corpo l’opera d’arte. Questi pezzi sembrano citare la sua famosa collana Masculine Feminine del 1986 i cui componenti sono elementi costituiti dalle impressioni dei capezzoli di un uomo e di una donna suddivisi rispettivamente da un lato e dall’altro del gioiello." This month I have the pleasure of presenting the work of Letizia Maggio.

Letizia and I met in 2016, after adding me on networking sites Letizia came to look for me on the occasion of my exhibition at the Fuorisalone during the Milan design week, because Letizia is really interested in weaving relationships based on communication and exchange . Since 2016 our discussion has remained open and our knowledge has become a friendship with solid foundations.

LETIZIA MAGGIO is a jewelry designer with an eclectic background. In her curriculum you can find a master's degree in English Languages ​​and Literature, studies in art therapy, a qualified training as a ceramist achieved through courses and collaborations with renowned artists and at the International School of Ceramics 'La Meridiana' in Certaldo, an apprenticeship in the field of goldsmithing and more.

Open and prone to collaborations and dialogue between different artistic disciplines, Letizia often resorts to the use of fine art photography in her projects.

In recent years her research has been oriented towards the use and experimentation of a variety of materials and languages that may each time be the most suitable for translating the concept that she intends to communicate or explore with her work.  

IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MILK COLLECTION, 2023

The series, recently presented at the Munich Jewellery Week 2023, develops in two different directions, complementary but also opposite.

On the one hand, it intends to celebrate the woman tout court, with a little malice and with irony, through the representation of the female breast where the materials used are in strong contrast with those that have been typically used in the past to depict it , as we learn from art history.

On the other hand, with the series made in silver, the intention is rather to focus and draw attention to the condition of women and to the role they strive to play in modern society.

"Letizia presents a group of works, It might have been milk, which takes up her research on the body and in particular the female body: a set of pieces that draw breasts - as an original symbolic and generative element - in different formats, materials and techniques. The practice of representing the dissected body, through casts and prostheses, has ancient roots and is of classic memory. In the field of contemporary jewelry, Gerd Rothmann inserts himself into that revolutionary current that, since the 70s, has made the body the work of art. In particular, these pieces seem to mention his famous Masculine Feminine necklace of 1986 whose components are elements consisting of the impressions of the nipples of a man and a woman divided respectively on one side and on the other of the jewel."
